Marriage Registration in Pune

A marriage gets the existence with a marriage certificate. In India marriages are registered under the Hindu Marriage Act 1955 or the Special Marriage Act of 1945 failing to register it can make it illicit or illegal. To make the registration process simpler and easy, Government of Pune has made it a few steps process which do not require either any agent or agency. The basic requirement is complete and correct documents

Condition 1: The age of bridegroom should be 21 years and bride should be of 18 years of age for a legal marriage or registration.
Condition 2: Both the bridegroom and bride must be the resident of Pune.
Step 1: The couple needs to submit the application form along with the requisite documents and a prescribed fee at the registrar’s office.  

List of the documents
  •  Age Proof: 
     o        Birth Certificate
     o        SSC/HSC Certificate
     o        Passport
     o        Driving License
     o        School Leaving certificate
  • Address Proof:
      o        Ration Card
      o        Voter ID Card
      o        Copy of Telephone or Electricity bill
      o        Passport
      o        Driving License
  • 3 photographs of bride and bridegroom
  • Wedding Invitation card, in case the wedding card is not available an application on a stamp paper of Rs 100/- with a marriage photograph affixed would be enough
  •  If the marriage is solemnized in a temple a declaration from the priest is also required
  • ID proof of two witness should also be attached along the documents.


P.S. Along these above mentioned documents one Xerox copy of each is also required duly attested by gazette officer

Step: 2 The registrar would provide a receipt of the predefined fees. You can check online for the status of your application or check with the registrar by calling in his office for a date to collect your certificate. 
In most cases the applicant himself/herself receives the call from the registrar’s office for collecting the certificate after signing the documents in front of him. You may get a call in 7-15 days of filling the application.

Step 3:  Go to the registrar’s office along with 2 witnesses whose Ids you have given in the mentioned documents. Registrar will ask you and witness to sign the certificate. After signing he will handover you two copies of certificate one for bride and other for bridegroom.  

In case of Special Marriage:
        All the above mentioned condition and documents like Age proof and address proof would be required and duly attested by a Gazette officer
        If the marriage is solemnized in a temple, a certificate from the priest including his name, address and time and date of marriage is required
         If any of the applicant is foreign national a non-objection certificate should be submitted
        In case of remarriage a copy of divorce should be submitted by Divorcee
        Similarly a copy of death certificate must be submitted in case of widow/ widower
        Address and ID proof of the witnesses are also needs to be attached (at least 2 witnesses)

For special marriage it may take a month minimum to process the marriage registration process.
