How to open a bank account under Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana?

The Jan Dhan Yojana has made it very easy to open an account. Formerly, account opening process requires lot of paperwork and time consuming as well. But with Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) Government of India has reduced the paper work as well as certain rigid norm to make the process even simpler.

You will be surprised to know a bank account can be opened with Aadhar Card only. To open an account you just need to visit nearby bank or any camp of PMJDY in your locality with the complete and correct documents. Please find below the list of documents which may be useful to you for opening a bank account under Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana-
1.       Two passport size photographs

2.       Aadhar Card, in case you have acknowledgement receipt it is enough

3.       Voter Id

4.       Passport

5.       Driving License

6.       Pan Card

7.       NREGA Card

8.       Letter from the village Sarpanch

9.       Letter signed by gazette officer, with duly attested photo of applicant.

10.   Just by chance if the applicant fails to provide any of the above mentioned documents, then the responsibility lies on the shoulder of banks to ground check the applicant. In case the approached banks discover the applicant in “low risk” category he/she will be provided an option to open a temporary account for 1 year. He/she may convert this temporary account in permanent account by providing valid proofs before completing 1 year tenure of bank account.
In case the address has changed, then a self certification of the present address would be enough.
Once you submit these documents you will be eligible to have an account under Jan Dhan Yojana. With the zero balance account, account holder will get a life insurance policy, RuPay debit Card and an accidental coverage only if the account will get opened by January 26, 2015.
